The avocado law

An interesting story..

I was listening to Dr Tareq Al-Suwaidan, the speaker, trainer, and author of many personal development books.

One of the stories he mentioned stimulated my imagination. Hence, it encouraged me to learn more about it.

The story was narrated to Dr Tareq by one of his friends. That friend liked avocados.

Which are used in many dishes like salads, sandwiches and even in juices. One day he was trying to prepare a meal for himself and wanted to add avocado to it. He searched the fridge and found one, but this avocado was not like any of the ones he used to eat. It wouldn’t open. The outer shell of the fruit was as hard as a rock. He tried using small sharp knives, then bigger knives. Even a hammer wouldn’t smash it.

Interesting isn’t it?

What is the avocado law?

So, he decided to leave it. When his wife arrived home, he asked her how she opened the avocados in the fridge and explained how he tried with all his power but couldn’t open it. She simply replied, “The avocado didn’t ripen yet. Once it’s ready, it will open easily without any force”

From this incident, his friend came up with “The Avocado Law”, an analogy for those who have higher ambitions and goals.

For those who are willing to contribute within their communities and to the world on a larger scale.

For those that have projects that can benefit humanity, you need to wait till you are ripe.

You need to nourish the fruit inside you until it can be consumed by others. You need to polish the diamonds hidden within you until they can shine for the world.

Have you ever heard of a farmer that planted a seed and harvested the plant the next day? Absolutely not. It’s not possible.

Harvesting a plant requires careful attention to many factors, all of which are needed for it to grow healthy and produce fruits. It needs to be planted in the right soil, during the right season, kept at the right temperature, fed the right fertiliser, and kept free from pesticides. It requires work and patience to obtain the end result.

The same theory applies to you. You need to nurture the skills you have, put them into practice, and deliver the best quality of your work possible. Then you wait for the fruits of your hard work to appear.

How this Analogy apply to you as a mother?!

Well you can apply this theory on all the amazing work you are providing to your children now. Those values you are planting within them will grow one day. The knowledge you are working so tirelessly to pass onto them will benefit them as they grow, and they will forever be grateful to you. So never stop learning and improving yourself.

This analogy has been a reward to remember whenever challenges are thrown at me.

I may or may not see the fruits of my parenting. but I know for sure nothing goes to waste, and I will be delighted to harvest those fruits and to thank God to allow me the experience.

Don’t forget to wait until your skills are ripe, and in this case the seeds of your parenting, just like the avocado. 🥑

Never give up on the small seeds you’re planting now.

As you continue to Parent , Those seeds you have planted will one day grow and you will be delighted to see the hard work you have

put into it. So keep striving naturing these tiny seeds and never give up just you would do on small seeds you plant and wait for its fruits to appear one day.

Never go up the success ladder quickly.

Attempting to go up the success ladder too quick and too soon , will only result in you coming down quickly without solid foundations.

There fore, take small solid steps and never belittle any small step you are taking towards your goal. As it started with a step before it became steps.

It has being long said ” A thousand mile journey begins with the first step ”
