1. Coaching is an ongoing process that focuses on the present rather than the future.
The coach might touch on your past if she / he needed to do so in order to find a solution to your present problem.

2. A coach helps you understand your problems and find the solutions to them, by asking questions that will assist you to look deeply into your problems.

3. A good coach allows you to learn so you can improve your performance. The coach believes that you have the answers to your problems, and that you only need help to get there.

You may ask if I have the answers to problems why do I need a coach to begin with?

Good question. There are many reasons you will need a coach at one point in your life. Let me give you the most important reasons you should hire a coach..

1. A coach will get to the root cause of your problems.

Well you see, you may know that something is not going right for you at this point in life, but through the coach’s specific and carefully selected questions you’ll find out the root cause of your problems.

Think of it as a doctor. You explain your symptoms and the doctor gets to the root cause of your condition, and then diagnoses you before prescribing a medicine, right?

That is exactly what the coach will do. Without identifying those root causes you may not find out, or it may take you a long time to finally put the pieces together.

2. Improves your performance

This is one of the primary reasons why people hire coaches. You may have an area in your life that needs improvement. That’s where the coach comes in, to specifically work closely with you until you excel in it.

3. Gives you honest feedback..

The trust you and the coach develop during sessions is vital. You will not find someone who will give you honest feedback and evaluation that improves your performance and unlocks your potential like a coach does. Let’s put it this way, a coach is real with you. She/he will not sugar-coat if you need to know something that hinders your progress.

4. Hold you accountable

Coaches hold you accountable. They give you an opportunity to have someone to answer to.

What benefits does accountability have?

– You get more done, as someone will be checking on you.

– You complete hard tasks that were unpleasant to finish.

– It will be difficult to procrastinate.

5. Give you Positive Reinforcement

Coaches will give you that push of motivation and celebrate your small wins as you work on achieving your goals. They give you positive reinforcement to keep you focused on your goals and reassure you that you are on the right path to success.

6. Gain knowledge

Coaches will load you up with beneficial resources that can improve your personal growth fast. That’s because they have experiences that you may lack. And remember “learn smarter not harder, ” so why take the long road to your personal development when you have someone who can give you the short cut, right?

The short answer is no

Mentoring is mostly about someone who shares their skills, experience, and offers to help others by what is called a ‘directive’ method. You will see in mentoring sessions that the mentor does most of the talking and gives advice.

Mentoring is a long-term relationship lasting anywhere from 6 months to several years.

Coaching is  a ‘non directive ‘ method, meaning it is more focused on guiding the client to reach their goals with their full potential, and raising awareness. So in coaching sessions, you see the coach asking the right question and allowing the client to reflect and do more of the talking to unlock her/his current problems or obstacles.

Coaching relationships can last from a 30-minute conversation to a long-term one too.

Counselling: Think of it as someone who gives you that solid support to assist you in coping whilst you gain the strength to get back on track.

A counsellor will touch on your past emotions to find solutions moving forward, as he/ she focuses on the healing part of your situation.

A coach, on the other hand, deeply believes that you have what it takes to unlock your own potential abilities. You only need that one push and someone to hold you accountable so you can achieve your goals.

Both counsellors and coaches have to be great at listening and giving rapport to their clients. But you will find coaching clients are in a healthy mental space where they are able to take on guidance and follow directions to achieve their goals. While counselling clients need that safe environment where he/she finds what is keeping them stuck and how to cope with life’s painful experiences that got in their way.
